Tom Van Thiel of TVT Die Casting, Portland, Oregon, receives the NADCA Chapter 30 Distinguished Service Award at Vendors Night in Downey, CA.
After graduating from high school Tom Van Thiel went to work at Boeing. While at Boeing Tom decided, he would like to go to Oregon Technical Institute. He started OTI in diesel mechanics before switching to Machine Technology which he later earned his degree in. After Graduating from OTI Tom went to work for ESI for about 7 years. After ESI he went on to run the manufacturing operation at Sunn Music, an amplifier company. Deciding that he wanted to run his own business he joined Puget Die Casting where he set up, developed, and ran the Puget Western for 7 years before he left and started TVT Die Casting in 1975. Tom identified a need for low to medium volume, high tolerance, value added finished castings in many OEM companies supply chains. In the years since with the support of his wonderful wife Myrna Van Thiel, TVT under Tom’s guidance has continued to improve upon their ability to produce high value-added parts in an economical fashion with the belief that business revolves around customers and their continued success. Each year since, he has continued to build on the principles of flawless quality, exceptional customer service and fair prices. In his free time Tom has been an avid aviator who has flown for more than 45 years, 26 with his own plane. He also owned his own boat and helped crew on another. Tom will continue to enjoy the thrill of the hunt. He has enjoyed his wonderful journey so far.
